New tools on the way

With the help of feedback, I have engineered and will soon be presenting several new versions of the chaingauge.  The next versions will actually measure if the chain is based upon the DIN or ISO standards, as well as be able to measure stretch.  That's right, stretch.  The new versions will be a hand tool that will be focused on one size, and will measure both standards.  That will also mean that there will be a new gauge available, for several of the more common sizes initially.

New design in the making; measure the length of a link

I'm announcing today that additional design work has been started, which will measure the length of a link as well as the diameter.   This might mean that the new gauge might be more limited in the range that it will measure, but the benefit of being able to identify the length of a link and have that possibly indicate which standard was used in it's design.  More to come on this.

More adjustments being made.

After having entered somewhere over 1000 zip codes and their associated tax rate, I have been able to turn PayPal back on.  With the establishment of accounts with shipping carriers and the processes involved with shipping, the cost simply can not stay at one dollar.  At a minimum, the rate will be $4.95 which will cover the mailers, printing labels, base shipping cost plus additional charges for tracking numbers and personal time and transportation.  This cost will be included about the time this post is completed.  Thank you for understanding, it's just the price of doing business in our modern world.

UPDATE:  I had to turn Paypal off so that I could go input over 854 zip codes (yea, that's the exact count) and their cooresponding sales tax rate.  Well, I completed it, re-gened the buttons, updated the web site, and it's up and running.  There is at this time, as least one option for people to purchase chaingauge over the internet.
Things have changed since I first looked into this option, and it just made sense to pursue the idea.  And, after about an hour, it looks like it's set up.  If anyone has any problems or issues, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I hope this makes it easier.  Thanks for being patient while this is all fine tuned.

From an effort to provide the best quality tool...

I have recently discovered a method for marking the StarBoard plastic that won't rub off.  Research is now under way investigating the possibility of marking the numbers instead of engraving them.  More news about this as it evolves.

New Metric version

In an effort to address all possible markets, Chaingauge is now made in a strictly metric version.  This gauge measures chain from 7 mm to 18 mm and is cut 0.3 mm larger than the stated size so as to accommodate galvanization.  The same process is being used, using a CNC machine to cut the gauges.  Same rugged construction.

It's time to split the gauge into two.

     In the spirit of providing the best product possible, I've come to the realization that the gauge should be two different gauges.  The current model has the metric side labeled with the closest equivalent to the Imperial side, and doesn't accurately measure metric chain per say.  So, The Imperial version will be the same as it is now, but without any labeling on the opposite side.
     A new Metric version will be created and be geared to measure from 3 mm to 20 mm.  The slots will be cut .4 mm larger than the stated size so as to accommodate galvanized chain.  The projected initial delivery date is March 1st, 2015.
     This will allow me to provide a more accurate tool to a larger market.  This will be the third version of ChainGauge.  Your feedback is welcome.

Introducing the ChainGauge

I've decided to introduce the ChainGauge to the world for the price of $9.95.  The license and tax info is all set up with the State of Florida.  Time to go after new business opportunities, see ya in the funny papers. (an old reference to an idea that I'm going to be so famous one day, that they'll use my likeness in a comic strip in the morning paper).  I'm almost old enough to use that phrase.   In addition to building and selling ChainGauge, Chaingauge LLC is also providing custom CNC engraving and milling services working with wood and soft plastics.

Up and running in a new year !

Just a quick note to let everyone know that ChainGauge LLC is now up and running.  Since I am a sole proprietorship, I will be involved in all aspects of my new business.  I have almost 30 years of experience programming computers and anything else I could get my hands on, as well as successfully working as a mechanic, electrician, and a slew of other various trades.  I've remodeled several houses, cars, and even two sailboats.  Yes, I have a wide variety of skills, yet being a salesman will be new to me.  I look forward to some exciting times with the warm reception I've received from previewing Chaingauge with two dozen sailors and a couple of boat parts stores.
